A moment with: Natalie Knoll Co-Founder of Bird & Knoll

03/04/2024

Let us take you behind the scenes as we interview Natalie Knoll, co-founder of Bird and Knoll. From its beginnings as an accessories brand, to its transition into resortwear, Bird and Knoll have always and continue to embrace timeless, feminine luxury. In this interview, we uncover what sustainability means to their business, the best piece of advice she has received, and why they decided to once again partner with WFG.

What was the driving passion behind creating Bird & Knoll?

Bird and Knoll started as an accessory brand. We would translate our digital imagery of iconic and exotic locations onto a “canvas” of cashmere and silk blends. In 2016 we segued into resortwear, wanting to offer our clients more for their vacation edits.

What does your morning look like?

I am definitely a creature of habit. Early rise and out for a walk with my coffee in my hand and a podcast in my ear. I try to be at my desk by 8-8:30am as Macayla (the Bird in Bird and Knoll) is based in New Zealand so she will have been at work for a couple of hours already. We catch up over a skype and then forge into the day…

Coffee Order?

¾ full soy latte - don’t ask ;)

Currently Listening to?

I love our Bird and Knoll playlists and have recently created one of my own called Retro Love - a great nostalgic compilation of music from mostly the 70’s and 80’s….music that I grew up with. I have become a bit obsessed with podcasts on my morning walks too….listening to Brene Brown, Dan Senor and Triggernometry.

Reading?

I just finished a great book called Go As A River by Shelley Read. Haunting

Best piece of advice?

Be interested and be interesting

Most Loved item of clothing?

I am totally in love with our new Lorenzo quilted jacket. I have been wearing it with everything from jeans, to dresses to skirts - you name it.

What does sustainability mean to you and your business?

As a fashion brand we know that the industry has a significant carbon footprint so we are committed to doing everything that we can to try and minimise and mitigate it. From producing to order to using compostable and recyclable packaging to ensuring that none of our clothing lands up in landfill through our partnerships with Thread Together and Fashion Forward, we are working hard to build a brand committed to sustainability. We know that there is more that we can do and we explore that through working with Trace.org to offset our audited carbon footprint.

Who inspires you?

My mother, my daughters and the amazing women in my life.

Why did you decide to partner with WFG?

I really admire what WFG does and your recognition that not only are many brands looking for avenues to extend the lifecycle of their collections, but that there is an audience of women who are keen to support that message of circularity through buying from WFG.
